as the frogspawn starts to bubble our ponds and the last snowdrops and first ramsons meet in the woods, Stone and Water are gearing up for a lively summer
There are various grant applications brewing which will hopefully underpin several series of exciting events over the summer months. More details will appear as plans confirm but just to whet some appetites and get your diaries slightly scribbled on, here are a few things that are definitely happening
Spring art, woods and wildlife
Wednesday April 4th
Where: Lea Bridge car park at the High Peak Junction Visitor Centre: postcode: DE4 5AA. Note: the car park is off Lea Rd (from Cromford to Holloway)
When: 11:00 – 15:00
Join Gordon from Creeping Toad for a session designed for families with children with additional needs with art activities to capture a sense of spring, stories and walks through the woods. Bring a picnic if you would like to make a day of it! Our activities might last an hour or so, more if you join us for a walk
We are hoping that there will be more events of this kind in the summer so keep an eye on this blog or on our facebook page
Buxton Festival Fringe
Tiny! an underwater world
Sunday 15th July
Where: Pavilion Gardens (by the young children’s play ground), St John’s Rd, Buxton SK17 6BE
When: 11:00 – 15:00
Cost: nothing but smiles
The Tiny! team are back for another day of making and laughter. Join us in creating a whole submarine world in our sea tent. Mermaids and monsters, sharks, dolphins and sea-horses: who knows what will be wriggling in our seaweed?
We have lost count of how many Tiny! events we have done as part of the Fringe over the years, sitting in Pavilion Gardens in sunshine, rain and sogginess. With the unifying theme of “make nothing bigger than your hand” they are always great fun. We hope that on a lively day in the Gardens, our Tiny! corner becomes a place to stop; for everyone and anyone to make, for people to sit down on the grass and chat and laugh and make new friends….
And this year there will be deep underwater wonders – we are bringing the crochetted Carboniferous seabed from our Ancient Landscapes project so that your creations will have somewhere to explore before they swim you all off home

A day of storytelling and storymaking in Buxton library

Buxton Pride Picnic
Saturday 21st July
Where: Pavilion Gardens, St John’s Rd, Buxton, SK17 6BE: look for us on the lawsn in front of the swimming pool
When: 14:00 – 17:00
An occasion for some glamour, delicate sandwiches, hunky lumberqueens and booted timberjacks, or maybe just about anyone who would like to come and be part of it all
Celebrate Queer Buxton (LGBT+ and friends!) with an afternoon of graceful silliness and frivolous strength. Bring your own exquisite nibbles, an umbrella or parasol if appropriate, and join us for a picnic as elegant as we can make it.
The first Picnic, last year, won the Spirit of the Fringe Award.
